Her Majesty The Queen – 1926-2022

Construction News is deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family and the entire nation.

Mace has been selected to build a 10-storey office above a tube station in central London.

The development will be located above Moorgate station. The contractor will carry out both construction and fit-out work on the scheme, which is valued at £55m by construction intelligence provider Glenigan.

The building, known as 101 Moorgate, will offer eight floors of grade A office space as well as a mezzanine-level business lounge and retail spaces. A roof terrace and extra outdoor areas at lower levels will provide green spaces.

Mace will use diesel-free construction methods to build the over-station office, while the building will be fossil-fuel free in operation, using air-source heat pumps throughout, and photovoltaic panels – targeting BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating.

Offsite construction will be used to reduce the project’s carbon footprint, while precast concrete panels with double-glazed aluminium punched windows will be fully made and assembled away from the site.

Mace has been selected by clients Aviva Investors and Allianz Real Estate.

Kari Pitkin, Allianz Real Estate’s head of business development Europe, said she was convinced the project would be a "future-oriented building".

She added: "With Mace now on board as contractor for 101 Moorgate, we look forward to the construction and delivery of this high-quality, user-focused and highly sustainable office asset."

Construction will begin on site in October 2022 with a September 2024 target for completion.

Last month, the contractor's commercial offices and residential division completed its first diesel-free project, which involved the redevelopment of a London office.
